Ron Asheton 1948-2009

I am incredibly sad to learn about the passing of legendary Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton. Needless to say, the Seattle grunge scene would have probably never existed if it weren't for The Stooges. Most people automatically think of Iggy Pop as the force behind the band, but the real backbone of the group's music lay in the brothers Asheton, Scott "Rock Action" on drums & Ron on guitar. After the demise of the Raw Power-era Stooges, Ron teamed up with Jimi Recca, an original member of the Stooges, KJ Knight of the Amboy Dukes & Dennis Thompson from MC5 in this criminally underrated and forgotten gem of a band - The New Order. Though they never released a 'real' album (a record of demos came out shortly after their demise) and another band stole their name - Ron Asheton's New Order rocked hard while they were around. They mostly played around L.A. in the mid to late 70's, a young Van Halen once opened for them. I'm posting this long out of print cd, released in the early 90's on the French label Revenge, in tribute to Mr. Asheton & his immeasurable contribution to rock music. This cd contains 8 tracks that were not released on the aforementioned record & was purchased for $75 on ebay about 4 years back. This album is incredibly hard to find & the first 8 tracks are among my personal favorite of all of Ron's post-Stooges material.
UPDATE: I just found my other New Order cd, Declaration of War, so I've uploaded it, too. It contains all eight tracks from the original New Order vinyl as well as an additional instrumental version of the song 1975 - No Taboos. You can find the album artwork for both releases in the picture section of the Ron Asheton's New Order myspace page
So, Again: please turn up the volume, sit back & enjoy:
