We have moved to a new location
Pungent Sound (Formerly known as He/Sheattle) is making some big changes. First off, the name of the blog was changed a little while back so we have moved to a fancy new location. Second, we have a new team member, the mighty Zardoz, who will soon be adding his blood, sweat, tears (and hopefully other bodily fluids as well) into the mix, along with his fantastic collection of and vast knowledge of the sort of music that should tie nicely in with what has been built up here these last several years. Thirdly, you can now follow Pungent Sound on facebook, so if you don't feel like going through the hassle of adding the new location to your reading list on blogger, you can just click the 'like' button on the Pungent Sound facebook page and stay updated that way.
Big thanks to every one who has been a part of the 36,390 page views we've accumulated throughout the years. For updates, re-ups, requests, etc. be sure to check out the new location. The best is certainly yet to come...

Thrones / Behead The Prophet N.L.S.L. - Split 7"
How better to celebrate the midway point of the month of July than with a gloriously noisy split 7" by two amazing bands? First up we have the mighty Joe Preston solo project Thrones plowing through a cover of Blue Oyster Cult's "Blackblade." The b-side consists of three solid screamy rockers from Behead The Prophet N.L.S.L., who were lead by former Mukilteo Fairies vocalist Joshua Plague.

Portal - Zantopoulos
Portal were an experimental instrumental band formed in the late 90's by members of the first incarnation of the band Vermilion. Portal's instrumentation, from what I can remember, consisted of guitar, bass, casio keyboards and a Boss drum machine - all used in conjunction with various effects pedals. Zantopoulos is an EP that was self-released on CDR by the group in '99 and was named after a former childhood classmate whose last name sounded like that of a futuristic city.

Take One For The Team - Pounder Payed In Quarters
Take One For The Team were a pop punk band from Bothell, WA that existed in the early 2000's. Their sound can best be described as an amalgam of some of the better known pop punk bands of the time (New Found Glory, Blink-182... etc) with vocals very reminiscent of Saves The Day. Members of the group went on the play in bands such as Evora, Sunday Best and This Providence.

The Cripples / New Luck Toy - Split 7"
Today's download features 4 slabs of down home Northwest punk rock. The Cripples return with two more tracks of their trademarked style of abrasive synth punk. The first track "Deep Throat" is slightly faster paced than the version that made it onto their album Culture. The 2nd track is called "Hospital" and was recorded in 1996 by an earlier incarnation of the band. Rounding things off are New Luck Toy with the songs "Wedding Dress" and "Timothy of Today"
Enjoy! (contains sleeve and insert scans)

Mukilteo Fairies / Las Mordidas - Split 7"
Here are three more tracks from everbody's favorite grindy noise punks: Mukilteo Fairies backed by one track by Las Mordidas (which featured members of bands such as Ignition, Fury, Circus Lupus, Monorchid and Skull Kontrol)

The Finks - Children Of The Finks (cassette)
The Finks were a hardcore street punk band that existed in the later part of the 90's. I know next to nothing about these guys other than that were awesome to see live and that (I think) they broke up sometime in the Spring of '99. This is a 10 track cassette they released that was passed on to me by a friend a long time ago.
If you happen to know anything about this band or what any of the members ended up doing afterwards feel free to leave a comment and help fill in the story.

I need your help
I am working on reupping most of the links that went down after the whole Megaupload debacle and I've come to realize that I am missing something. I've lost both my physical and digital copies of the Drowning In Lethe tour cd-r. If you happened to download this and still have it stashed away somewhere, please upload it somewhere and send me a message. Thank you

Run Away Laughing
Before Waxwing, before Lying On Loot and before branching off into what has come to be an absolutely stellar solo career, Rocky Votolato was playing in a band with some high school friends called Run Away Laughing. This is an album that was released I believe sometime around '94 or '95 and it should definitely appeal to fans of bands like Sunny Day Real Estate, Thirty Ought Six or any of Rocky's other work
There are a few sound issues with this rip as my copy of this tape rarely left my walkman back in the day and is rather worn out at this point. If anyone out there has a better quality copy of this release I would be very grateful if you could upload it somewhere and send me a link.
Enjoy

March 15th
March 15th were a post hardcore band from the greater Seattle area that existed from the late 90's into the early 2000's. They originally started off as a typical three piece (guitar/bass/drums) but, after taking a queue from the Blood Brothers playbook, expanded to a five piece, adding two additional vocalists, further increasing the fury and intensity of their sound. Members of the band have gone on to play in such groups as: Ravenna Woods, Monogamy Party, Navigator vs Navigator, Fires to the East and Skyline Divide

Vade - Self-titled cassette
Vade was the band that most of the members of The Blood Brothers were in prior to starting that band. They had three releases that I know of: a 7" called Saturn, a 12" split with Jough Dawn Baker and this here Self-titled cassette tape released on Henry's Finest. I lost my original copy of this thing years ago and had been searching for a replacement copy ever since. Thankfully though, last year someone let me know they were auctioning off a copy on ebay and I was able to get my grubby little hands on it.
So, here ye be:

Tit Pig
Today's download features 10 blasts of hardcore homoerotic hesher punk from Seattle's infamous Tit Pig. These tracks are from their sole release, a very limited edition cassette that came out sometime last Spring/Summer. Apparently these guys broke up a little while back. Here are some fond memories people shared over on The Stranger's website:
"I thought they were awesome. Saw them only the one time, opening for tacocat, but it was enough to know sonething awesome was brewing in the Seattle metro area."
"Saw this guy (singer Sean Prawn) shove a mound of cocaine up his nose at the Funhouse and then talk about his band as if they were the next kings of dog shit mountain. They broke up? Shocking."
"I thought Tit Pig was terrible. Good Riddance."

Megaupload has been taken down
So, Megaupload is now gone and I'd guess that something like 85% of the links on this blog have disappeared with it. I will definitely be reposting some things in the near future but some stuff, especially the few things that are readily and cheaply available on places like i-tunes and amazon, will not be coming back. If you have any requests as to what should be reupped first, please leave a comment
